Safety and Compliance

American Air Operations is committed to operating safely in the National Airspace System, and complying with all government regulations. On August 29, 2016, the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) set of operational rules, known as Part 107, went into effect. American Air Operations operates in compliance with Part 107.

The following are a few regulations observed by American Air Operations (American Air Operations will seek a Certificate of Waiver from the FAA if an exemption is needed and it can demonstrate safe operation):

Every Pilot-In-Command shall hold an Airman Certificate with a small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) rating from the FAA

A sUAS must weigh less than 55 lbs

The airspeed of a sUAS shall not exceed 87 knots (100 MPH)

The altitude of a sUAS shall not be higher than 400 feet above ground level unless the sUAS:

  • Is flown within a 400-foot radius of a structure; and

  • Does not fly higher than 400 feet above the structures immediate
    uppermost limit

The weather visibility, as observed from the location of the ground control station, shall be no less than 3 statute miles

The minimum distance of the sUAS from clouds shall be no less than 500 feet below clouds, and 2,000 feet horizontally away from clouds.

The sUAS must remain within the visual line of sight of the Pilot-In-Command or Visual Observer

Operations in Class B, C, D and E airspace are permitted with permission from Air Traffic Control (ATC)

Operations in Class G airspace are permitted without permission from ATC

No carriage of hazardous materials

No careless or reckless operations
