Legislation

On June 18, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which included the “Countering CCP Drones Act.” The bill aimed to ban DJI drones by prohibiting their use of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) communication infrastructure. The legislation moved to the Senate for further review and a vote. To the best of our knowledge, all future sales of DJI drones in the United States would be banned if the Senate passed the bill and it was signed into law by President Biden. However, it did not appear the bill would impact existing drones that have already received FCC approval.

The Senate Armed Services Committee recently released its version of the NDAA and it did not include the Countering CCP Drones Act.
However, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) recently submitted an amendment that would attach the Countering CCP Drones Act to the Senate’s version of the NDAA, which would reintroduce the call for a ban on the sale of new DJI drones in the United States.

American Air Operations will continue to monitor legislation and request information from elected officials. However, we encourage our customers to conduct their own research prior to proceeding with a purchase.
